27th - 31st December 2005 - Work starts at last! return to Latest News

The collapsed roof was removed and the Upright Shaft salvaged. Next to go was the debris on

the floor, which consisted of a mixture of old tyres; rotting timber; polythene bags, and earth.

This was all removed down to the level of the top of the sleeper walls; two walls that divide the

base and originally supported the floor joists. Finally the elder tree was dug out; this was about

twenty feet high, but fortunately the roots were fairly shallow.

In the snow on the 27th!

Most of the work was done from above as it was too dangerous below.

Just starting to tackle the elder tree.

Levelling the floor. The brick ledge just being revealed is where the floor joists rested.
